Wider Achievement involves the development of skills which help learners to succeed in today's world.

Wider Achievement recognises the life and work skills that come from involvement in a range of activities such as sport, mentoring, voluntary work or fundraising initiatives - whether they take place at school, college or elsewhere. 





  • A Personal Development Programme offering imaginative ways of developing, recording and certificating a wide range of young people‚Äôs personal qualities, abilities and achievements, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges


John Muir Award

  • A programme encouraging pupils to connect with, enjoy, and care for wild places


  • A programme established by the British Heart Foundation to teach emergency lifesaving skills






SQA Personal Development Awards

  • Self & Work (developing task management skills)
  • Self in Community (developing interpersonal skills)
  • Practical Skills (developing skills such as healthy eating/cookery, gardening, emergency lifesaving skills)
  • Self-Awareness (developing awareness of self and researching career options)


SQA Wellbeing Awards

  • Exploring wellbeing (explore what it means to have a sense of wellbeing)
  • Improving wellbeing (undertake an activity aimed at improving the wellbeing of themselves and/or others eg improving fitness, relaxation techniques


SQA Employability Award

  • Preparing for Employment: First Steps (explore existing skills and experience, and how these might apply to work)
  • Building Your Employability Skills (consider types of employment which may suit & skills needed to find employment, such as contacting employers, filling in application forms, and writing a CV)
